There are literally thousands of children in Christchurch who, for one reason or another, find it difficult to cope with what life throws at them.

We’re not talking about children who are particularly troublesome at school or at home - they tend to get tons of resources - we’re talking about kids who fly under the radar for most of the time and therefore get very little attention from anyone.

Often lacking in self-esteem and self-confidence, these young people are longing for someone to take an interest in them, to listen to what they have to say and to help them come to terms with life’s challenges. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Christchurch provides such children with adult mentors.

Mentors are normal people of all ages and from all walks of life - usually with no formal training in social or youth work - who are prepared to give one child, one hour of their time, once a week.
