How do I refer a child?

If you are a parent, you can contact us through the website or by phone and we can discuss if you can apply for your child to have a mentor in our community based programme. While we would like to be able to guarantee that your child will get a suitable mentor, the reality is that we are reliant on volunteers coming forward. It may take months or even longer for a suitable mentor to be found for your child.

In our school based programme, we are only able to work with our participating schools. Please ask your local school if they are a participating school. We do not take third party referrals.

What age are the children you work with?

All referred young people must be aged between 6 and 14.

What if I get matched with a young person and we don’t get on?

Our experience says this is extremely unlikely to happen. Our match support staff work hard to make a good match and to monitor it regularly. The young people consent to having a mentor and typically are excited about the prospect and quick to engage.

How long does the mentoring last?

Our goal is for mentoring matches to last for many years. However, circumstances can change so some matches reach less than that. Most volunteers regularly see their young person for at least 2 years, but many go on to reach 5 years and more. We will only accept volunteers that can commit to a minimum 12 month period
